Thanks to the cyber initiative by National Informatics Centre, Odisha Police and Women and Child Development Department,  as tracking the missing children in Odisha will now be made easier.

While conservative statistics show that nearly 2500 children in Odisha go missing every year, NGOs engaged in taking care of children issues, claim that the number is much more as the police are not registering such cases which go off the record.

This was revealed at a training program on National Portal for Missing and Found Children (http://trackthemissingchild.gov.in/trackchild) organized at National Informatics Centre (NIC), Odisha, Bhubaneswar during 17th Jan to 19th Jan 2013.

Welcoming the participants, Dy. Director General & State Informatics Officer, NIC Odisha Sri S K Panda gave out details on the National Tracking System and its utility.

Shri B K Sharma, IPS, Additional Director General (Crime Branch), revealed that after the much hyped Nithari case in 2008, the Centre has taken up the issue with all seriousness and soon Odisha will roll out the National Portal   by 31st  January 2013.

Among others, Sri Y B Khurania, IG Crime Branch and Dr R N Behera, Sr. Technical Director, NIC were present. Dr Behera coordinated the training programme.
