President Interacts With Kanpura Gram Panchayat, Rajasthan Through NIC Video Conferencing
The hon’ble President of India, His Excellency Pranab Mukherjee held a live Video Conferencing from the Rashtrapati Bhavan , New Delhi with the people of Gram Panchayat (GP) , Kanpura in Ajmer District on the 2nd November 2012. The prez impressed with the services inquired about the transformation and impact of the fibre connectivity and e-governance services on the citizens of GP. The VC was held during the presentation of second Annual Report of National Innovation Council to the people by well known Sam Pitroda, Chairman ,National Innovation Council and the Advisor to the Prime Minister on PIII in the presence of hon’ble Central Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Shri Kapil Sibbal, national, international delegates and many other dignitaries present during the function.
At the VC, the village Sarpanch from Kanpura, Jagdish Bairwa briefed the first citizen of the country about the benefits of the fiber connectivity to the citizens. He said that “ now we are connected with the other parts of the country and feel good. The computerised copies of land records, birth & death certificates are now being issued through the GP. Earlier on for any medical and health related issues the residents of the panchayat had to go all the way to Ajmer incurring time and costs etc. With the introduction of telemedicine the facilities are now available at the at the GP in the form of medical consultation and residents of the Panchayat are getting the maximum benefit of it. The IT Manager posted at the GP is regularly updating the school’s students and adults in IT literacy. Students are accessing the internet for their education, results and various information needs. The students are also able to download various educational videos from the panchayat. The district administration, National Informatics Centre & BSNL had made elaborate arrangements to make the event a grand one. SIO Rajasthan Indu Gupta informed that “ NIC had established a duel VC facility, one for the live interaction from Panchayat Bhawan Delhi and another for the media persons and the common citizens from the adjacent rooms for the prestigious event. The VC session was managed by Video Conferencing, Division, NIC New Delhi with an uninterrupted connectivity of 10mbps for the event by BSNL. Kanpura is the one of the ten pilot Gram Panchayats which has been connected with fiber under the Pilot Project of Rural Connectivity. The basic Infrastructural support and manpower has been provided in the ten pilot panchayats. NIC had previously demonstrated the ICT facilitation at the Kanpura GP to the second time elected US president Hon’ble Barak Obama during his last visit to India in November in 2010 through VC with GP, Kanpura from St. Xavier’s Mumbai and had received wide appreciation for the same.”
