Rath Jatra - 2012 on Live Web Cast
The much awaited Car Festival -2012, the festival of chariot of Lord Jagannath, Puri has taken place this year on 21st June 2012 followed by Bahuda Jatra on 29th June and SunaVesa on 30th June 2012. National Informatics Center(NIC), Odisha State centre did live webcast of the mega festival with the help of ‘Webservices and Data Centre Division, NIC(HQ), New Delhi’. Shri S K Panda, SIO, NIC Odisha State Centre who has been all along on the forefront of this initiative was backed by a dedicated team led by Dr. R N Behera, Technical Director with other team members Shri K. C. Pattnaik, PSA, Shri Sambit Panda, PSA who contributed towards live webcast of Rath jatra. The State Government launched the live web cast of Rath Jatra for the first time in the year 2004 with the technical support from NIC. Since 2007 the live web cast of Rath Jatra is being organized by NIC, Bhubaneswar unit. NIC Odisha State Centre and New Delhi Center capture live telecast of the event from Doordarshan channel and uplink it to NIC New Delhi server. The video is web cast through streaming media technology and available to the devotees across the Globe. This year around one lakh persons watched the live web cast from various countries. Jagannath Temple web site (jagannath.nic.in) with new look and feel and enriched content facilitates online donation to lord Jagannath. Devotees can donate online through credit card of any bank or net banking facility of Punjab National Bank (PNB). People across the Globe are availing the online donation facility, said sources in SJTA. This year with the request of Tourism Department, Government of Odisha, The Bahuda Jatra (Return Rath Jatra) and Sunavesa (Golden Vesa of Lord Jagannath) were live web cast on 29th and 30th June 2012. This was facilitated through the portal odishatourism.gov.in and jagannath.nic.in and rathjatra.nic.in. Worldwide from different corners i.e. USA, Japan, U.K. China, Canada, Thailand etc have visited the live webcast of all the events. The same has been highly appreciated by Principal Secretary, Tourism, Government of Odisha and Chief Administrator, Sri Jagannath Temple Administration, Puri. .
