NIC Jammu and Kashmir bags Wisitex ICT Ratan 2010
National Informatics Center, Jammu and Kashmir has bagged the prestigious Wisitex ICT Ratan 2010 award for providing excellent e-Governance services and spreading ICT culture in the state of J&K. The Hon’ble Minister for Science and Technology, Aga Syed Rohulla, presented the award to the State Informatics Officer, Sh. Abhay Kumar at a one-day ICT conference on ‘E-Governance and IT in J&K’ at Hotel Grand Lalit in Srinagar on 23rd of July, 2010.
The conference was jointly organized by the state government and the major players of IT industry to discuss the role of information technology in e-Governance in Jammu and Kashmir.
NIC in J&K has implemented some significant ICT projects in the state in recent years like Vahan & Sarathi, Community Information Center (CIC), JAKMAP (J&K Municipalities Automation Package), Electoral Rolls and EPIC, CM’s Public Grievance Monitoring, Energy Bills computerization, Treasuries computerization, General Provident Fund’s computerization, CIPA and e-Courts project among others. NIC also has a stake in implementing prestigious projects like State Wide Area Network (SWAN), State Data Center (SDC) and the Common Service Center (CSC).
In his speech, the Minister for Information Technology, Aga Syed Rohulla, highlighted the importance of e-governance in the present world.He also called for "capacity building" of the stakeholders "to see e-governance projects flourish”.
