The Director General (DG) of National Informatics Centre (NIC), Dr. B. K. Gairola, visited Shillong on 19th June 2012. After attending the North East Information Technology Ministers’ Consultative Meeting at Pine Wood Hotel, Shillong, the DG, along with Dr. Shefali Dash, Deputy Director General (DDG), NIC visited NIC Meghalaya State Centre. They first went around the NIC building which also houses the Meghalaya State Data Centre. Addressing the employees of NIC Meghalaya, the DG exhorted them to keep themselves abreast with the latest technologies and to devote at least thirty percent of their time in updating their skills. Before executing any project, the DG said, the employees ought to dig into the wealth of NIC’s existing software and to reuse, customize and implement them. Apart from administrative issues, the DG also spoke about projects like the State Data Centre, NEGP and e-panchayat etc. Afterwards, the DG joined the NIC employees for light refreshments.

The employees of NIC Meghalaya were very honoured to have the DG in their midst.
