A state level workshop on AGriculture MARKeting information system NETwork (AGMARKNET) was held on 29-03-2010 at Kisan Bhawan, Chandigarh. The workshop was organized jointly by National Informatics Centre (NIC), Punjab, Directorate of Marketing and Inspection (DMI) & Punjab Mandi Board. The function was inaugurated by  S. Ajmer Singh Lakhowal, Chairman, Punjab Mandi Board. During his inaugural speech, he emphasized that Information  and Communication technology can play a vital role in the upliftment of a common farmer of Punjab. He also appreciated the efforts made by DMI, Govt. of India and NIC for developing a useful portal (http://agmarknet.nic.in ) to provide daily arrivals and prices of all mandis and other information on the net. He further insisted that maximum information should be in regional languages so that local farmers can make use of it.

 

On this occasion officers from DMI, NIC & Punjab Mandi Board addressed the delegates from market committees across the Punjab.
