Scholarship scheme which is part of the e-district programme of the Tamil Nadu Government, was inaugurated by Hon'ble Minister for Backward Classes and Hon'ble Minister for IT on November 23, 2009. The scheme would benefit around 4.25 lakh students belonging to BC, MBC and denotified communities studying in more than 1100 Government and Government-aided institutions. The project was driven by Secretary(IT), Government of Tamil Nadu and CEO, Tamil Nadu E-Governance Agency. The complete workflow system was developed using Open Source technology and implemented by NIC, Chennai. The Secretary, BC MBC welfare and Commissioner, BC MBC welfare were instrumental in implementing the process changes and the success of the programme. Necessary training at the state & district level was imparted. The system has been implemented in all districts of Tamil Nadu and is being used by the State & District BC & MBC offices and the institutions. The status of the scholarship is available through Common Service Centres and on internet.
