Smti Ampareen Lyngdoh,Minister of Urban Affairs, Government of Meghalaya launched the official website of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) and inaugurated the online Public Grievance Monitoring System in the premises of the Board on 20th December 2011. Speaking on the occasion, Smti Lyngdoh said that the system will not only provide a platform to citizens to lodge their complaints but will also make SMB more responsive to the needs of the people. She assured the gathering that the administration will check monitor the system to ensure that the grievances are redressed in time. Smti Lyndoh also complimented NIC for its efforts in introducing e-governance in the State in general and the Municipality in particular. She also registered the first complaint using the system. Others who spoke on the occasion were Shri Timothy Dkhar, State Informatics Officer, National Informatics Centre, Meghalaya, Shri B.K. Panda, Director, Urban Affairs, Government of Meghalaya and Shri B. Dutta, Director, State Investment and Project Management Implementation Unit (SIPMIU), Shillong.
The website and the online Public Grievance Monitoring System have been designed, developed and hosted by National Informatics Centre (NIC).The website disseminates useful information to the citizens including the various schemes run by the municipality, the plumbing work specifications, key contacts, citizens’ charter and forms for various services. The online Public Grievance Monitoring System provides a platform for the citizens to register grievances online and also to keep track of the status of various complaints. The application is integrated with the SMS gateway of NIC
