Shri Priyank Bharti, IAS assumed charge as the 20th Director General of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) on 21 May 2026, bringing with him over two decades of rich administrative experience spanning public policy, governance, technology-enabled service delivery, and institutional leadership. His appointment comes at a time when digital public infrastructure, data-driven governance, and emerging technologies are increasingly shaping the future of public service delivery across the country.

A 2001-batch IAS officer of the Punjab cadre, Shri Bharti brings with him over two decades of experience in public administration, policy implementation, institutional leadership, and technology-enabled governance. An engineer with an MBA, he has served in several key positions in both the State and Central Governments and has been associated with initiatives focused on innovation, administrative reforms, and citizen-centric service delivery.

Prior to joining NIC, Shri Bharti served as Administrative Secretary, Department of Science, Technology and Environment, Government of Punjab, where he contributed to advancing the use of science and technology for governance and sustainable development.

Over the years, Shri Priyank Bharti has held several key assignments including Secretary, Joint Secretary, Director, Deputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate. These diverse responsibilities have provided him with first-hand experience in public administration, district governance, policy implementation, infrastructure development, and service delivery. His work across multiple sectors has given him a deep understanding of both the opportunities and challenges involved in leveraging technology to improve governance outcomes.
