India and the Nordic countries have elevated their bilateral engagement into a Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership, placing digital innovation, advanced technologies, research collaboration and sustainable technology development at the centre of future cooperation. The decision was taken during the Third India-Nordic Summit held in Oslo on 19 May 2026.
The partnership seeks to combine Nordic technological expertise with India’s scale, talent pool and manufacturing capabilities to accelerate innovation- led growth. Key areas of collaboration include digital technologies, telecommunications, cybersecurity, health-tech, advanced manufacturing, research and innovation, and next-generation communication technologies.
A major outcome of the summit is the launch of the India–Nordic Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership, which aims to promote the adoption of sustainable technologies, strengthen digital infrastructure, and support data-driven governance and service delivery. The initiative is expected to foster innovation, optimize resource utilization, enhance energy security and create new opportunities for technology-driven economic growth.
The two sides also agreed to deepen cooperation in STEM research, with a focus on technology transfer, joint R&D initiatives and academic collaboration. Research in emerging fields such as 6G communications is expected to contribute to the development of robust digital infrastructure and strengthen the digital economy.
India’s technology engagement with Nordic countries is already significant. Around 40 Indian companies operate in Denmark across IT, engineering and renewable energy sectors, while Finland has acknowledged the growing contribution of Indian professionals to its technology and innovation ecosystem. The Indian community in Finland also has a strong presence in the IT sector, reflecting the increasing role of talent mobility in strengthening technology partnerships.
The summit further emphasized collaboration in cyber security, health-tech, Arctic and Polar research, resilient supply chains and digital innovation. These initiatives are expected to support technological advancement, strengthen innovation ecosystems, and create new opportunities for start-ups, researchers and technology enterprises in both regions.
